Home Access Plus+ Version 4.5 & Firefox 3.6.4

Hi all,

Please note, that the new version of firefox is causing issues with home access plus+. This issue only effects the silverlight version of the my computer browser, and the default uploader.

To fix the problem, either downgrade to 3.6.3 or:

Type “about:config” into FF’s address bar
Accept the warning (if applicable)
Search for the entry “dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npctrl.dll”
Change its value from “true” to “false” (double-click)
Restart the browser

I have filed a bug report with Mozilla about this, and so has a fair few other people, as this is a big issue.

Hopefully Mozilla will FIX the problem

Home Access Plus+ Version 4.5 – More Stuff

Been working a little bit of HAP today, not much, but a bit.

First thing is the drive space indicators, which have been added. Now these space indicators ignore QUOTA limits (as getting QUOTA limits from a separate server is complicated).

The second is the new meta tag that will be in all HAP pages:

This tag, tells you what version of HAP you are running.

O and deleting has been coded now.

Today I worked on the file upload UI side of things, as well as a About page (I know, but it will provide some needed info for admins as well).

Since I figured out about the WhistlerBlue theme in the silverlight toolkit, I’ve been using that to theme certain controls to the Win7/Vista style, and this is true of stuff in HAP 4.5. The upload indicators now use the Whistler Blue theme for rendering, and as such, produce a much more familiar feel. Drag and Drop from outside the application is now implemented in the UI, with some nice UI features (like the roll over effects of sub folders, and the information tooltip).

The file exists dialog has also been created, and unlike previous versions, the new UI looks like Windows 7’s file exists dialog.

A future feature of SLB will be the ability to drag a box around items to selected, but at this time, not possible. I’m also looking into have some animations put it (just little ones to animate the UI)

Another item worth mentioning is a slight limitation in silverlight. In SL4 you can’t drag anything else other than a file into Silverlight. Which is annoying if you wanted to upload a folder, but I suppose it’s a security feature.

Home Access Plus+ Version 4.5 (Silverlight Controls) Update

Well, this is a strange one from me, 2 posts in a week, anyhow…

Today, I did some more work on Home Access Plus+ v4.5, and have added the new folder creation (plus the sorting that goes on), Renaming (and sorting that goes with), and, did some drag and drop stuff. See:

It’s proving quite an interesting time developing this, silverlight is a lovely platform, well using C# really makes it lovely.

Stuff left to do in the UI, add a waiting screen, while it does some more of the complicated stuff. Uploading, Moving, Renaming, Deleting, New Folder won’t use the waiting screen as those actions will be done client side, with small API calls back to HAP.Web to do the back end stuff. With uploading, you can browse to different folders while it’s uploading (though this may be slow). To move stuff to a parent folder, there will be a ‘..’ folder for that. I’ve disabled drag and drop in the tree as it’ll be a bit too complicated to interface with that, and moving between drives isn’t supported by .net.

Once the UI is done, which will be next weekend, I’ll start work on the API. And then, after half term I’ll start work on putting the API calls into silverlight to make it actually do something. Once I get to the API point, the test page will no longer work, as the API requires HAP.web and the school active directory to work.

I’m also working on the possibility of making HAP.Silverlight.Browser work outside of the Internet Browser. Working directly off the desktop will give a speed improvement, but may pose a security risk (shouldn’t do but I won’t know till I try).

So that’s Drag and Drop from inside silverlight DONE (UI wise), got Drag and Drop from outside, the UI for downloading (might make it a right click event, or even double left click), the UI for uploading, and some little things left to do UI wise. Which I’ll try and do next weekend.

Home Access Plus+ Version 4.5 (Silverlight My Computer Interface) – The Interface design

Right, version 4.5 of HAP contains something that I feel is really cool, it’s a silverlight file explorer. The current version in HAP uses Javascript, which I couldn’t quiet get working properly, anyhow, the new version goes even further, enabling drag and drop every where.

Now what you are about to see is a concept design, it’s complicated to get this working, so here we go.

It will do a lot more.

So what do we have, we have a treeview on the side (much like explorer), A toolbar at the top (looking like the one in Windows 7 and Windows Live), and a couple of files in the middle (it’s not bound to the REST API for HAP yet, which will populate that, and the tree. It’s mainly to get the UI done before I do the back end and code. It’s already 400k big, I don’t know how, but it is, and this doesn’t even have the full drag and drop support coded yet.

I’m doing this when I get time (read: Get Bored) so it’s not top priority.

Things to do:

Write the ASP.net REST API for Silverlight to use
Design the upload UI
Make a modal popup for New Folder
drag and drop UI
Link the API with silverlight and release as a BETA

Well, just incase you haven't seen, nbdev was hit by some user spam, which has taken me ages to fix. Wrote a SQL script to delete everyone who joined in 2009 (figure it's the safest way). Sorry if you were a user created during 2009, but I can't have spam on my site.

I had over 4500 @gmail.com users that were all SPAM

CS Media Manager 1.4

Hi all, it’s been a while, but I’ve been busy. Anyhow, I’ve spent today updating CS Media Manager to version 1.4. It drops using Aero where the menu bar is, instead it’s now using Windows 7’s toolbar, sidebar and footer.

This version works with Community Server 2008. Not CS 2008.5! I’ll try and make another release for CS 2008.5 soon, as hopefully, it won’t be too hard to upgrade.

And for those of you using TC5, you poor old fools. Telligent Community is CRAP. It may look like, but you can’t get a free version that does anything, developing anything for it is limited to GADGETS. So sorry but I've given up.

Ok, I got a bit bored today and made this, my first vista gadget. It’s only really for people on enta net’s ADSL network here in the UK. It utilizes enta net’s RSS feed to get your ADSL information

Employment Looms

As full time employment looms I’m starting to reject clients, if you have a really simple job that needs doing, like theming a CS install to look like your site, or working off a PSD, then I’ll still take on work for this, as I can even work on this over weekends outside of work.

But as for the big stuff, the last clients for this are LiveSide and Reperion. If any other clients have gotten in touch with with, sorry, but if I start work, I won’t be able to work on side projects.

Presenting Athena 2008 Beta 1

I’m proud to announce that as of 10pm BST (GMT+1) on 1st August 2008 Athena 2008 Beta 1 is officially available for download.

WARNING: THIS IS A BETA PEICE OF SOFTWARE!

Words of warning:

This release is a beta product and has bugs
The user cannot save the customisation changes that he/she has made
Transparencies do not work
Header background images are all that are allowed now
Form background image (main base background image) is a gradient effect in this release, and is configurable.
No CSLive controls are installed, although you can add CSLive 1.0 Controls after installation

Download either the Web or Windows Installers, and extract them into your community server installation. Once done you should see the athena 2008 theme in your control panel.

Included in this package is 1 header image, released at the same time as Athena 2008 will be Athena 2008 Header Image Pack 1. This package will contain a set of images that need to be uploaded into a gallery in community server. Once this has been done set the relevant settings in the site theme settings under the Athena Tab. Note that you can tag these images for better filtering of a gallery.
