Yep, more has been done on this already, with the introduction of the rounded borders used. These borders will eventually be loaded via the color setting of aero, but for now they are done using a static color.
Click on the orb slides the customize menu into life. The Menu items expands the menu width wise for the new menu item.

It's all looking quite cool actually.
On a side note, the javascript for this will be less, significantly less. Since most of the non needed stuff is being shifted to AJAX calls.
There will be a 'SAVE' button on the customize menu for saving what you've done. This is different from Aero 2.0, which needed to call AJAX more for the same information. Now because I've moved to using proper XML from AJAX in my Call Backs ill me able to send more information back using these calls.
