Dev Log Date 23.01.07 - Aero 2007 + CS 2007

Yes Community Server 2007 is due out sometime Q1 2007, which means Aero 2007 is planned. Yes. The lovable Aero is going to get a slight make over with CS 2007. I know it says 2007, i've changed my naming scheme. It will be 2007, then 2007 SP1/SP2/SP3/SP4/SP5 if ur lucky.

I'll be working on simplifying the installation process, making an extra exe + aspx file that is a wizard for creating the new Aero 2007 Config file. Aero 2007 will use the new CS 2007 theme information.

So this is what I've got planned for Aero 2007:

  • Replacement of the color scrollers with a full blown color wheel
This was planned for 2.0 but was replaced with scrollers for simplicity.
  • New Borders to the main content.
Hehe, this will be a new feature in 2007, the Vista Aero Effect gets more REAL with transparent borders.
  • New API's
These will improve the expandability of Aero.
  • Auto updating
This will update the DLL of Aero, the files (if needed), and regenerate the config file.
  • Signed in as Nick | Signout | Help | Inbox repositioned
This will move into the Top border, just above the navigation, it will have "glow" effects on the hyperlinks.
  • Navigation Dropdowns will be upgraded
Javascript behind these will be redone, the dropdowns will also work in non english languages.
  • Background Image Gallery Picker will be Live'd
The Scroller there at the moment will be replaced with a search.live.com style image search, which auto loads new images. Reducing the "page" terms there.
  • New Font Options
The font option will be expanded to include Local Machine fonts. So if you really want to, you can have a font not in the list.
  • Updated TABS
The tabs will have a slight recode.
  • Control Panel Aero Theme
Community server's control panel will have a theme built for it, which you may deploy, or you may not.
  • Aero 2007 Control Panel
The Aeroscript CP will be intergrated into the Control Panel, using a seperate page. The config changes to allow this will either be overwrite files or the wizard with change the configuration files automatically.
  • /themes/aero2/aeroscript.aspx will be renamed themes/Aero2007/[commonbodybg.asmx|usercss.asmx|htmlbg.asmx|javascript.asmx|menu.asmx|sidebar.asmx]
This split will enable XHTML standards, which hopefully Community Server 2007 will abide by.

If you have anything you would like to see in Aero, contact me!!!

Just to finish off on, Aero 2007 will be the biggest and best Aero ever, and will be for CS 2007, so get ready to update to Community Server 2007 when it comes out.

I've add some custom modules so it would be nice if the dropdown could read a config file or something so we could build our own drop menu items

Sounds great Nick. Thanks for continuing to expand upon the Aero theme. I can't wait to see what new stuff you come up with.

I would love to see you modify the section ...

"Signed in as Nick | Sign out | Private Messages (2) | Help"

I think the way Com.Server lays it out is confusion to users. I am curious to see what you come up with here.

I'll see what I can do with the sign in information ;-)

Hopefully Customizable dropdowns will be allowed
